Nach langer Zeit gibt es mal wieder ein Interview, diesmal aus Übersee. Chelsi (16) aus den USA erzählt über ihr Leben.

How is the life in the USA? Do you like it?

Life in the USA is what I've always had. I can't really analyze it because I've never experienced anything else. I can only analyze it through educated theories on what life in other places must be like. I've never been fortunate to have long vacations or to actually live overseas, unfortunately. In my sixteen years of experience while living in the United States life has typically been easy. My parents have always been fairly wealthy and with that came a life where I could focus on education and other such things rather than the typical human needs. These needs have always been fulfilled because I was fortunate enough to grow up in such a well-established world power. In my family education has always come first. I've been forced to go to my full potential and on some occassions far beyond. All in all, I do enjoy my life here. It's pleasant and laid back. I have time to do leisurely things that many people can't. I'm capable of indulging myself in the newest "toys" of my generation. Some of my favorite past times is hanging out with my friends, going to the movies, and playing video games. Many people aren't capable of doing such things. Their goal is to survive while mine is to get into a good university after I leave high school. I got the better part of the deal with the world. I like it simply because I'm able to live life to its fullest.

Do you like going to school? How is the school system in the USA?

I really enjoy school most of the time. It has both pros and cons. I don't enjoy getting up so early for it. That's only because I've been spoiled because I've lived a good and easy life. I really enjoy learning in general and the social aspect of school is fun. I really enjoy the extra curricular activities offered to the students as well. It helps the students make friends with people who have similar interests. I go to a private school and have been going there all of my life. I'm not sure how the government operated schools are. My school specializes in "gifted" students. These students are supposedly the best and the brightest of the country. We are offered a multitude of courses depending on what you are best at. For example, I am very gifted in the arts, but am much less gifted in arithmatic. I have special teachers to further my talent and improve my faults. School begins at around 8am and ends at 3pm. I have four classes a day, but any of my choosing as long as I follow certain guidelines. There are numerous after school activities to choose from and you are allowed to do as many as you wish. My personal favorites are drama, art, and French. We go to school five days a week and have numerous vacations.

What is popular in the USA?

Many things are popular in the USA today. The most popular books would be the Harry Potter series. I really love these books. They're absolutely splendid. Reality TV is what is most popular today. I personally hate it and most other things to do with television. The most popular music would be along the lines of Britney Spears, NSync, and The Backstreet Boys. I also do not enjoy any of these. Some of the most popular movies are Spiderman, Lord of The Rings, Episode II, and Austin Powers: Goldmember. I have seen all of these and I really enjoyed them. They were all great movies.

Would you be please so kind and tell us something about your life?

My life has obviously consisted of many things and it'd be very difficult to choose only one thing to talk about. I grew up in a very sheltered home and was addicted to reading newspapers and following stock a majority of my childhood. I live with my parents and older brother who is 21. I have many friends whom I love dearly. I also have a boyfriend of eight months whom I also love dearly. I have a small kitten named Lucian who is the greatest pet ever. A majority of my life has consisted of my education and thus it is very important to me. I've been going to school since the age of two. My world generally revolves around it. All of my friends go to my school and my boyfriend used to before he started college at Princeton University in New Jersey.

What is your biggest dream?

My biggest dream is to make it into an Ive League college and study in the field of Psychology. After I receive my degree in that I'd like to do shows on broadway and possibly act in some movies. I'd like to continue going to college for as long as possible and study all the things that I have an interest in. Someday I might look for a career in a field of interest and settle down to get married and raise a family.

Do you like surfing the net?

When I first got the internet I really enjoyed surfing. Now that I've had it for so long I use it mainly for e-mail and chat only. If I'm curious about something I look it up. I also enjoy buying things off of the internet and reading web comics. Otherwise, it's just there.

Do you know something about Germany?

I know the general history and geography of Germany. We study it often in school. It's obviously very rich with history. Someday I hope to experience life in Germany.

Sorry that the last few questions were cut short, but a thunderstorm just arrived and I didn't want to lose what I've written.
